At the time, Dancing Wheel’s founder, Mary Verdi-Fletcher was the public relations head of an agency called Services For Independent Living located in Euclid, Ohio. I was a college intern at the agency while first attending Cuyahoga Community College studying for my Associates Degree in Community Mental Health at their Metro Campus. My first (and most preferred) internship had been as a counselor-intern at the Women Together Shelter Houses. The only reason I left Women Together and switched to SIL (a paying one) was because the Women Together Shelter House was an unpaid internship and I had all those looming tuition payments coming up, especially from Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio while I worked on my BA in Communications. In any case, Mary Verdi Fletcher had come up with ’Tempting Tina Turkey’ and ’Pleasing Tom Turkey’ (if I remember that right) as a promotional gimmick for a Thanksgiving run as an SIL fundraiser. The idea is if one contributed a certain amount of money to the ’cause, one could pick a feather off of Tina or Tom. My part in this is coming up with the idea of getting the two on the Big Chuck and Little John Show. I called and talked with Chuck Schodowski and made the arrangements – believe me, that’s the only way I’d get into the picture above. ’Tom and Tina’ were actually two very nice people for the brief time I knew them. ’Tina’ was a friend of MVF, and had talked her boyfriend into playing ’Tom’ Turkey. I put myself off to the side simply to let the photographer decide whether I’d be in the photo or not. Thankfully I made the cut. Then again, hey, it was my 35 mm camera!-) In any case, it was a cute moment, and Tina definitely did have some admirers among a few of the male studio staff!-)

…opp’s I need to make one little but important correction, Tina’s actual boyfriend is the one standing to the ‘right’ of Big John.
