Friends of Danny Coughlin Gather in Rocky River to honor him as he ends his daily TV career.

On Sunday, July  19th, friends and family of Dan Coughlin gathered, where else, at a bar to honor Dan who is ending his daily grind in the sports-reporting world at Fox 8 TV.  That’s a round-about way of saying Danny is not retiring, but will only be doing some free-lance work on high school sports for Fox 8 from now on.

On the stage you see John Telich, Photographer Mark Saksa, Stacey Frey, Lou Maglio, Gary Stromberg and Dick Goddard.  They were getting ready to honor Dan with a gift and a TV show of his famous “bloopers”.  The gift brought a howl from the crowd when Dan’s sons marched in carrying a large box with Dell Computers printed on the side. (Dan has long believed that the computer is the work of a devil and why can’t he just keep using his old typewriter?)  The box turned out to be loaded not with a computer but several six packs of Dan’s favorite beverage.

You can see other pictures over the next few days posted on our bulletin board at the start of this blog.

Retirement Party For Two Fox 8 Photojournalists

Friends and co-workers gathered on Sunday April 5th at the “Just Around The Corner” Tavern in Lakewood to say farewell to two veteran photojournalists.  Bob Wilkinson and Gary Korb between them have nearly 90 years of service.  Over the years they followed stories first in 16mm film and later in video tape and finally at the end of their TV careers were shooting digital pictures.

The pictures now on display were shot by Kristy Steeves, not only a talented, veteran reporter but also a fine photographer.  I’m doing this in haste and not identifying the pictures.  Perhaps  viewers who were at the party will sign in and leave comments and identify each of the pictures.  If not, we’ll try at another time.  I’m having some problems converting the large file of Kristy’s photos to a format that will work on the blog, so we will be adding some pictures as I get time to work on them.

Best wishes to Gary and Bob!

Big Chuck had the audience laughing almost non-stop at the Bay Village Library on Thursday, April 16th.  As part of his book-signing tour he makes stops at many libraries to chat with his fans.

I wonder if there’s any chance of him stopping in Alliance anytime soon?

Very interesting to see all of the photos over the years of all the TV & news personalities…NZ has really enjoyed a fabulously interesting career! I do remember quite a few of the TV8 folks, even tho’ I left the NE Ohio area in’73. Brings back memories…..Thanks, Neil.
